                - 1 lb. great northern beans
 - .9 lb. ham shank
 - 8 C water
 - 4 tsp chicken bouillon granules

    Instructions
    
                - Rinse and sort beans. Put beans, water, and bouillon in a large pot. Cover and bring to roiling boil, then turn off the burner. Let sit for 1 hour.
 - Add ham shank or hock and bay leaves, return to boil. Cook until beans are tender and ham easily separates, about 3 hours, but it tastes better the longer you cook it.
